It’s a pretty small group of icons.

Only six players in the history of golf have accomplished the task, and they will forever rank among the “best of the best” in a game that is now over six centuries old. The Career Grand Slam means a golfer has won each of golf’s four Majors in their career: The Masters, the U.S. Open, the PGA Championship, and The Open Championship (known by many as The British Open).

In men’s golf, 233 players have won at least one major. Eighty-nine have won two different majors. Eight players are in the “so close” club — winners of three of the four Majors — still missing a victory in just one of golf’s top events.

Last night, Irishman Rory McIlroy finally earned his place in the Career Grand Slam Club with a sudden-death victory in Augusta, Georgia, over Englishman Justin Rose to claim his first Masters Championship and elusive green jacket. He joins Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods as the only golfers to have accomplished the feat.

It’s safe to say that many in the golf world were excited about Rory’s ascension into this elite fraternity and are likely wondering what took so long. He won four Majors very quickly in his young golf career and then went on a 10+ year drought — no victories in the biggest events each season — even though he remained one of the top-ranked golfers in the world.

What’s Your Grand Slam?

Now, I’m not asking you to be among the all-time best in the business. I don’t expect you to grind so hard every day that you’re considered one of the top 10 Realtors (or managers, lenders, salespeople, etc.) in the world. But seriously — ask yourself:

What is one major accomplishment I could strive for that, if achieved, would put my business in a great spot?

More importantly, if I could maintain it, might I one day be able to consider myself one of the “best of the best”?

I don’t expect you to play amazing golf on the world’s most iconic courses. I just challenge you to *get up, show up, and do the work.*¹

Maybe your Grand Slam could look like this:

  • One new listing this month
  • One new buyer agreement signed
  • One closed transaction
  • One referral (incoming or outgoing)

That’s a pretty solid month.

Or maybe your Grand Slam is more about activities than results. What might happen to your business if each week you…

  • Scheduled three to four appointments
  • Made daily calls to clients or your sphere
  • Held a weekly Open House
  • Had at least one face-to-face conversation with a client?

Boom. That’s a Grand Slam, too.

Or maybe it’s as simple as hitting the 4-H Club every day?

A ton of weight lifted off Rory McIlroy’s shoulders last night when he sank that 3-foot putt to win. Everyone I talk to believes Rory will only get better now that he’s finally completed his Career Grand Slam.

Who knows what might happen for you?

But trust me…I’ll be here in the gallery, cheering you on, hoping you’ll accomplish your achievement.
