It’s always fun when music streaming service Spotify comes out with their recap of the past year. The annual feature that shows up on subscribers’ screens around mid-December celebrates the music (and podcasts and audiobooks) that defined each person’s year when it came to their listening habits and activities.

It’s a very visually appealing presentation, blending attractive graphics, statistics from the past year, and background music from several of the most popular artists you listened to.

Ask most people how many there are in a year, they will have no idea. Play the first few piano notes from the main song in the Broadway musical Rent and they’ll probably sing you the answer…

Five hundred twenty-five thousand, six hundred minutes
Five hundred twenty-five thousand moments so dear
Five hundred twenty-five thousand, six hundred minutes
How do you measure, measure a year?

In daylights, in sunsets
In midnights, in cups of coffee
In inches, in miles
In laughter, in strife
In five hundred twenty-five thousand, six hundred minutes
How do you measure a year in the life?

Seasons of Love” from Rent

According to my Spotify Wrapped, I listened to 18,611 minutes of music this past year. That’s almost 13 full days of music streaming through Spotify on my phone or desktop. I listened to 2111 different songs with “Silver Linings” from the Philadelphia-based Mt. Joy being my most-played song. JJ Grey & Mofro were my most-listened to band out of 874 unique artists.

Have you checked out your Spotify Wrapped for 2024? Who was your favorite artist? Favorite song? What day do you listen to the most music?

Now, imagine if your real estate career had a “Wrapped-style recap” on the past year.

Do you know how many days you worked this year? What about how many hours or minutes you put in to achieve the levels of success you earned since the calendar flipped to 2024? Imagine if you had a way of knowing when you were most productive?

What were your “favorite channels” this past year? Do you generate more conversations and appointments from Face-to-Face activities or was it time spent on the telephone? Perhaps it was text messages, email, hand-written notes, or social media?

What trends could you pick up on that might give you some good insights on how to spend your time, efforts, and money in the new year? Should you wake up earlier? Spend more time in the office? Invest in coaching or educational events?

What can you do with your business next year to make sure that your audience has your name on the top of their “playlist” next year? Will they hear from you enough times through all the different channels to edge out all the other professionals they might know?

Over the next few weeks, dial up a few of your favorite songs or search for your go-to artist and hit shuffle so you can review your past year and see if you can come up with a good playlist for the year ahead.

Just imagine what a good year it could be if “building relationships,” “solving problems,” and “having fun” were among your most played tunes.
