Today’s post isn’t about real estate. It’s about real life.
This past weekend, PGA Tour player Grayson Murray passed away at age 30. I didn’t know Grayson Murray personally, but I knew of him. I know some people who did know him personally. It was clear that his fellow professionals were moved by his death.
Murray was a talented junior golfer and a two-time winner on the PGA Tour. He was also very public about his challenges with alcohol and mental health.
Murray took his own life on Saturday after withdrawing from the Charles Schwab Challenge in Ft. Worth, Texas.
“When you’re down and troubled,
And you need a helping hand…
And nothing, nothing is going right.
Close your eyes and think of me
And soon I will be there
To brighten up even your darkest
night.”
As Realtors, we work in a relationship business. If we want to be successful, we do everything we can to follow Seth Godin’s advice and “turn strangers into friends and turn friends into customers.”
We ask lots of questions. We try to know a lot about a few things and a few things about a lot of things. When we ask questions, we listen to the answers. Sometimes the answers lead us to more questions.
The better listeners we are, by default, the better Realtors we are.
“If the sky above you
Should turn dark and full of clouds,
And that old north wind should begin to blow.
Keep your head together
and call my name out loud now,
Soon you’ll hear me knocking at your door.”
Grayson Murray left behind his parents, his brother and his sister, and many friends and acquaintances. My heart goes out to them all and I pray for them to find some comfort and healing.
As I said before, I didn’t know Grayson Murray. But he was someone’s son, someone’s brother, someone’s friend. In a world with 7 billion people and a country with 335 million people, there are way more strangers than there are people we know, but even though there might be days we feel all alone, someone is there.
I don’t know everyone who subscribes to or reads my weekly blog posts…but whether I know you or not, I’m here for every one of you and for any one of you.
I just wanted to put it out there in writing. If you ever need to talk you can call me, text me, email me, DM me on social media. However you need to reach out, please reach out. I don’t even need to say a word. I’ll just be there to listen.
“Ain’t it good to know that you’ve got
a friend
When people can be so cold.
They’ll hurt you, and desert you
And take your soul if you let them, oh yeah
but don’t you let them.“
No matter how easy life looks for some people, we never really know the entire story. It’s an old cliche but it seems to be a truth; We can’t control what happens to us. We can only control how we react to what happens to us.
When we wake up we should be thankful. We should tell the people that we love that we love them.
We should build relationships, solve problems, and have fun.
When we finish our day, we should be tell the people that we love that we love them, be thankful, and look forward to another day where we get to do it all over again.
“You just call out my name
and you know wherever I am
I’ll come running to see you again.
Don’t you know,
Winter, spring, summer, or fall
Hey now, all you have to do is call
And I’ll be there, yes I will.
