The last 10 days have kept my schedule full. Since mid-February, I’ve driven over 2,000 miles and flown between Columbus and Tampa 4 times.

I’ve seen everyone in my immediate family, but none of them at the same time.

I’ve spent multiple hours in all three facets of my career; speaking, sales, and coaching.

My speaking audiences have included 40-plus-year veterans of the real estate industry to high school kids at The Bayou Academy in Cleveland, Mississippi. I’ve spoken to a spectrum of students from seniors one day to Seniors, Juniors, and Sophomores the next.

But please, don’t feel bad for me. The last 10 days weren’t all work. I got to visit with old friends along the way. Dined at a few new spots. I listened to some good new music (go download JJ Grey & Mofro’s Olustee album) and lots of enjoyable podcast episodes.

I also got to play golf with my son, Ryan, on a beautiful Friday afternoon along the shore of Lake Martin in Alabama.

Like I said, please don’t feel bad for me.

I made calls from the road when a person’s name popped into my head and I texted hundreds of messages through the hands-free technology of Apple Car Play.

I met some cool new people along the way like Meredith, Lucas, Malik, Bethany, Mirabella, Nikki, and Cynthia. All of them were total strangers, but for a few minutes over the last 250+ hours, they each were able to help make a small impact on my journey.

As I begin another hectic schedule this week, it’s nice to look for more opportunities to seek that unlikely balance between work and life. It’ll probably never be truly equal time or effort between work and life and why should it? True balance is probably out of reach, but finding harmony is just an arm’s length away.

Maybe instead of any type of 50/50 lifestyle, I’ll just worry about a good ol’ 3-way split between building relationships, solving problems, and having fun. Let’s see how that works out.

My guess is it’ll be exactly what I was aiming for.
