“All it takes is faith, trust, and a little bit of pixie dust”
Tinker Bell
It started 100 years ago1 as The Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio in Hollywood, California. Today, the creation of brothers Walt and Roy Disney is better known as the Walt Disney Company.
When they decided to form the company, they probably had no idea of the “magic” they would create for hundreds of millions of people over the last century. Whether it was movies, cartoons, television shows, or their iconic theme parks, every interaction was an opportunity to make someone believe in something.
If you’re reading this, you probably have a few memorable experiences that were a direct (or indirect) result of something that Walt and Roy Disney did. I remember going to The Magic Kingdom in Orlando with my Pop (grandfather) shortly after it opened. (We needed tickets for each ride we went on). I think back to the movies I watched with my parents such as Peter Pan, Snow White, Bambi, Lady & The Tramp, and others. I loved those Sunday nights when I was allowed to stay up and watch The Wonderful World of Disney. I can still see the smiles on my daughter’s and son’s faces when we had Brunch with Mickey in the Cosmopolitan Hotel. Who could ever forget their first ride on The Jungle Cruise, Space Mountain, or Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride?
How Are You Creating Magic?
It’s hard to truly know what kind of impact you or I might have 100 years from now, but we can all start creating moments in our business today that someone is going to look back on and remember.
- That first-time buyer you’re going to meet soon who is going to appreciate your market knowledge, guidance, and wisdom.
- A newly-widowed Seller who will rely on your guidance and support so they can make good decisions as they seek to begin the next chapter of their life.
- A client will refer your name to a family member, co-worker, or total stranger because they know you’re the best at what you do.
- Perhaps it is someone you’ll mentor? Years from now they will tell co-workers or family members the stories you shared, the scripts you said, or the series of scenarios you encountered when you were a young agent.
- If you’re a manager, broker, or affiliate, what can you do to make an impact?
When asked what they do at the Walt Disney Company, Walt answered, “We create happiness.”
What magic can you perform today, this week, or this year that will create happiness?
