Some of us roll over and turn off the alarm. Others awake naturally. Maybe you have a dog or cat that nudges you when it’s time to wake up, or perhaps you need to get out of bed so you can get the kids ready for school.
Do you brush your teeth? Feed the dog? Pour that first cup of coffee?
Maybe you exercise? Meditate? Pray?
Or, if you’re being honest, do you grab your mobile phone first? Scroll through your text messages? Check your social mentions? See if you have any urgent or important e-mails?
Whatever your morning routine entails, there’s one little thing you can do each day that just might help your day get off to a great start;
Make your bed.
Today, September 11th, is Make Your Bed Day. It’s one of those somewhat silly “unofficial holidays,” but it’s certainly something we could all partake in. Even if it’s just for one day.
It’s about discipline. It’s about consistency. It’s about commitment.
So what do you say? Wouldn’t it feel good to start your day and already have something checked off the “To Do” list?
“If you make your bed every morning, you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride and it will encourage you to do another task and another and another. By the end of the day, that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed. Making your bed will also reinforce the fact that little things in life matter. If you can’t do the little things right, you will never do the big things right. And, if by chance you have a miserable day, you will come home to a bed that is made—that you made—and a made bed gives you encouragement that tomorrow will be better. If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed.”
