It’s no secret that Englishman Roger Bannister was the first man to run a mile in less than 4 minutes. It happened on May 6th, 1954 during a race in Oxford. Up until that time, most people were skeptical that anyone could ever break that time in a mile.

46 days later, Australian John Landy beat Banister’s time and set a new world record of 3:57.9.

In fact, it was on August 7th, 1954 (69 years ago) that Bannister and Landy became the first two men to run sub-4 minute miles in the same race. What was once thought to be impossible, was suddenly possible.

What Does Running Have to Do with Real Estate?

It’s pretty simple. “If he can do it, I can too.”

Once Bannister broke through, Landy knew it could be done. Everyone now knew it could be done.

Look around your office or company and some of the best of the best. Are they taking lots of listings? Are they making lots of sales? Do they earn repeat and referral business simply by staying active and engaged with their clients and in their communities?

“If she can do it, I can too.”

Luxury listings? Winning a multiple offer negotiation? Securing a full-fee listing?

“If he can do it, I can too.”

Do you see other agents sharing quality content on social media? Who in your office is leveraging video or direct mail to garner more appointments? What’s that rising star manager or team leader doing to capture more team members?

“If they can do it, you can too.”

What are you waiting for? Lace-up those shoes and get out there and start building relationships, solving problems, and having fun.

It might not be easy…but it’s easier than running a four-minute mile.

*The current world record mile time belongs to Moroccan Hicham El Guerrouj who ran 3:43:13 on July 7th, 1999.
