When you drive down the street and see a For Sale sign in the front yard, you think to yourself “I wonder where they’re going?”
In some cities, you might see a service provider or renovation company using the front yard as an opportunity to promote their product and make people who are driving by ask themselves, “I wonder what they are getting done?”
A cool tradition in my hometown (and probably many communities across America) is the families of high school Seniors putting up signs in their yards to congratulate their soon-to-be graduates. They usually put the logo of the college or university where they will be heading next Fall. As I approach the signs, I ask myself “I wonder where they’re going?”
Just like our real estate clients, these young adults are getting ready to close out one chapter of their life and start writing a new one. Some might be headed to college, some will jump right into employment, others will proudly join the military, and a few will grab their backpacks and passports and travel for a year or two before deciding what to do next.
What will they study?
Who will they meet?
How will they enjoy being on their own?
Where will they live?
Even though it was 38 years ago, I vividly remember my excitement for graduation and the anticipation of my college years in Gainesville. Knowing what I know now, that next chapter would become one of the best times of my life.
For the next few weeks, I’ll drive through town and see the signs. I’ll look curiously to see what school will be getting a new Freshman and find recollections in my memory bank if I’ve been to that campus or town in my travels.
Congratulations and good luck, Seniors.
Wherever you’re headed next, I hope you build relationships, solve problems, and have fun.
