Bill Self is the coach of the defending Men’s College Basketball Champion Kansas Jayhawks. He has won 77% of the games he has coached and his Jayhawk teams earned the National Championships in 2008 and this April in 2022. He knows how to win basketball games. He also knows that a game isn’t over until the game is over.

In this year’s championship game, Kansas was trailing North Carolina 40-25 after the first half but came back with an epic second-half effort to win 72-69 and claim Kansas’s 4th title.
It’s Almost Halftime of 2022
As we finish up the month of June this week and start to look ahead to the second half of the year, how do you feel heading into the locker room? Are you going to ride the positive wave you’ve been riding these last few weeks and continue to rack up wins, or are you concerned that a “shifting market” will suddenly steal your momentum and make it impossible to win?
What small victories have you achieved so far that can be repeated, multiplied, and used as lessons for continued success?
What obstacles have you been challenged by that you now have the wisdom and experience to overcome?
When was the last time you looked at your Business Plan? Go ahead and dig it up now. I’ll wait. Pull it up on your laptop or Google drive and see what you wanted last November or December for your business. Look at that BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal) you wrote down last year when you were coming off an amazing year and ask yourself, “Can I still make this happen?”
Ask yourself what needs to happen in the next 2-3 months to get on track for an epic comeback like the Jayhawks staged this Spring? Grab your calendar and block off time every day to build relationships, solve problems, and have fun. Stop making excuses that the economy, market, or media will stop you from doing what needs to be done.
Regardless of the economy, regardless of the market, and regardless of the media, people still need to buy houses and people still need to sell houses. You’re a Realtor (or lender, or title partner) so stop looking at obstacles and just get up, show up, and do the work.
It’s Time to Reset the Clock
We’re just making the turn. There are lots of birdie holes on the back nine…and we always have the 19th hole to look forward to.
We’re between periods. Time to sharpen the skates and get ready to score some goals before the game is over.
Who will make the best “halftime adjustments” and take control of the game?
It’s intermission on Broadway. Grab an overpriced beer, text your babysitter and tell them to let the kids stay up an extra half-hour, and get ready for that show-stopping finale everyone has told you about.
There are a lot of good things that are going to happen in the second half. Go take responsibility for some of them.
