Watching the ATT Pebble Beach Pro-Am this weekend made me wish I was there again. I had one opportunity to play this iconic golf course years ago and didn’t miss that chance. I tell people to this day, it’s probably the most memorable round of golf I’ve played…and I’ve played over 10,000 rounds of golf.

I remember getting to the property before the sun came up to get my name on the waitlist. I remember sitting there, outside the pro shop, with other golf zealots who had descended on this golf mecca to walk around the seaside links golf course along the coast of Northern California. When they called my name to tell me I would be teeing off in one hour, I jumped with excitement and asked the pro shop staffer if I could borrow their phone to call my wife at the hotel.

I still remember almost every shot I hit that day. I can still feel the breeze hitting me in the face as we turned the dogleg on hole #3 and saw the water of Carmel Bay for the first time. I vividly remember my wife being driven out to the course to walk with me. She joined me as we walked up the 4th fairway.

The picturesque 7th hole. Hitting across the cliffs on #8. Watching the tourists and locals walking their dogs on the beach below the 10th fairway. Finishing up on the memorable 18th hole along the water, with the historic Lodge in the background.

Man, I’d go back in a heartbeat if I had the chance. Who knows? Maybe I will get back to Pebble to play another round and maybe I won’t. But I’ll certainly be glad I did get the one opportunity.

“Now on the tee…”

What else has worked well for you in your lifetime? Where have you been that stands out as memorable experiences?

Looking back over your career, what were the one or two most impactful moments that brought you success?

Did your biggest client come from knocking on doors? Was your most enjoyable transaction a result of following up on a lead from a family member or past client? Can you recall that day you secured your highest-priced listing ever or closed a deal for your favorite client?

This week, let’s all break out the “Greatest Hits” albums from our stack of LPs (or CDs) in our record collections. Remind yourself of what worked in the past. Where you got your best opportunities, who you hung around with to meet good people, and what you were doing to be in the right place at the right time.

I give anything to get another chance to enjoy the magic of Pebble Beach. Something tells me if I just keep building relationships, solving problems, and having fun, I just might put myself in a position for something good to happen.
