A little dose of #perspective to start your day…
When I checked in to my hotel in Rochester, Minnesota, the front desk clerk asked me if I was in town for “The Clinic”.
“No,” I stated, “I’m here for business.”
She surprisingly answered, “Wow, you’re the 1% of our guests that aren’t here for The Mayo Clinic.” We had a conversation about what I was doing while in this city and I told her I was there to speak at a real estate conference. Rochester, Minnesota has a little more than 115,000 residents but I learned that almost 36% of them are somehow affiliated with or employed by The Mayo Clinic.
As I walked down to the lobby last Thursday morning and looked around at the other guests, I could suddenly feel their burdens.
Far away from their homes, they were here for medical opinions or treatment of some kind, or they were here supporting a loved one who needed medical opinions or treatment of some kind. Most of them looked like typical hotel guests, but a few, you knew instantly, were the patient.
One lady asked me if I was headed to “the Clinic” today and I told her “no.”
“How about you?” I asked.
“We are. Not for me…I’m here with my daughter,” and she pointed across the lobby to a little girl who couldn’t have been more than 6-years-old.
I walked over to her and said, “Good luck today. Be strong.”
As I stretched out my fist, she balled up her hand and we bumped knuckles. She looked at me, winked, and said, “I got this!”
Remember, someone out there probably has a few more challenges in their life right now than you. Keep things in #perspective.
I left the hotel that morning with a smile on my face and a purpose in my heart. It was time to go share some energy and enthusiasm with the people who chose to show up and learn.
I’m back home now but I’m guessing there are more people grabbing breakfast today in that hotel in Rochester getting ready for their day at the clinic.
I’ll send them some positive vibes and get ready to do what I’m good at; Building relationships, solving problems, and having fun.
