The flight was delayed…but at least I knew it four hours before my estimated time of departure. (Thank God for mobile technology and the power of the Southwest Airlines app). I’m guessing it was weather delays caused by thunderstorms across the Midwest, but I’m not sure?
Sometimes you just recognize that there are things out of your control.
I’m writing this post from my flight from Tampa before we arrive at John Glenn International airport in Columbus. I’m trying to stay positive that I’ll be gone shortly after landing, but I know from past trips that Port Columbus is one of the slowest baggage claim services I’ve experienced in my years of traveling. Sadly, it’s my home airport so I’ve had plenty of opportunities to be disappointed. (Yes, I always try to do carry-on luggage, but sometimes golf clubs and additional days or travel require checking bags). I just keep reminding myself that I’ll get there when I get there.
There sure is a lot that happens that is out of our control, isn’t there?
- When will we get “Clear to Close”?
- When the client said, “We love it! We’ll take it!”, should that mean we would expect the signed purchase offer that day…or the next?
- Will the buyers agent who promised me an offer last night be sending it today…or never?
- Inspection is done…but what did the inspector write in the report?
- That referral our friend told us about? We’re they gonna call us or we’re we supposed to contact them?
Maybe when we land, the ground crew at CMH will surprise me (and the other 142 passengers on this plane) and our luggage will be there before we get to baggage claim. Or maybe just a 5-minute delay. Or maybe just 10 minutes after arrival.
Fact is…regardless of how long it takes or will take…I don’t control it. I’ll just sit there and wait for my golf clubs and luggage, and be thankful for a great few days in the greater Tampa area. I’ll be thankful for the relationships built, problems solved, and fun had in Tampa. I’ll be thankful for another opportunity to start my week alive and inspired to help more people #BecomeBetter.
There is a lot of stuff in this world we don’t control. As soon as we accept that, we aren’t in so much of a hurry and things magically start to slow down.
Handle the urgent. Handle the important. Just remember that not everything is urgent OR important and even less is both urgent AND important.
Turns out the extra baggage in your life isn’t really what you should be worried about, is it?
