I saw a great quote last week. It really made me think…and then it made me smile.
We so often seek to avoid failure that we never even give ourselves a chance to fail. We are so afraid of rejection, we never pick up the telephone, knock on the door, or follow up with that opportunity. We justify it in our heads by telling ourselves that “they wouldn’t have wanted what I have to offer” or “I didn’t want to be a bother” or “people will call me when they are ready.”
When people ask me what advice I would give to a newer Realtor or even a general salesperson for that matter, I usually say “make more mistakes. As long as they aren’t legal or lethal mistakes, no one will get hurt and, in most cases, you’re going to learn what to do.” Of course, you might learn what NOT to do, but that’s part of the beauty of failing. It teaches what doesn’t work. Thomas Edison estimated he made over 10,000 attempts at the lightbulb but in the end, he only needed it to work one time.
In honor of Edison, here’s an idea…
Start being a little more proactive when it comes to building relationships, solving problems, and having fun.
Trust me, someone is going to do those three things today and have some success.
It might as well be you.
