Oh sure, I could be talking about the lottery…or am I?

Did you buy your Power Ball or Mega Millions tickets for the next drawing?

We’re still a long way from a record jackpots in both games ($1.586 billion for Powerball in 2016 and $1.537 billion for Mega Millions in 2018) but I’m guessing anyone who wins the next jackpot will not complain.

I bought a few tickets for the last drawing and with no winners, I’ll most likely take another chance this week too. It’s fun to dream about what might happen if you actually woke up and found out your numbers all matched, isn’t it?

Buy a near car? A new house? A new island?

Would you travel? Would you donate to charity? Would you start a foundation?

Would you tell anybody….or everybody?

Your odds of winning will increase simply by buying a ticket. Sure, the odds of winning might be a dismal 1 in 302,575,350 but the odds of winning if you don’t buy a ticket are almost certainly going to be worse that that.

Way worse than that.

You Can’t Win If You Don’t Play

Mailing a hand-written note is like buying a ticket. Connecting on social media is like buying a ticket. Stopping to introduce yourself to that For Sale By Owner, knocking on a door, passing out a business card, holding an open house? They all might be your winning ticket.

Following up with a former client, buying breakfast or a cup of coffee for someone in your database, or responding to that next Internet lead just might be the winning ticket. Actually making a phone call to have a conversation could be all you need this week to win big.

Building relationships, solving problems, and having fun are some “winning tickets” you should consider investing in.

Sure, the payoff might not be as much as the Powerball or Mega Millions and there’s a good possibility that you might not win, but at least you’re giving yourself a chance.
