Hey Doc, Can I Borrow Your Edger?
I’ve been meaning to do it for months. Every time I’ve walked outside lately it’s been staring me in the face. The unseasonably warm weather had everyone in the neighborhood outside squeezing in a little extra yard work, so I borrowed the electric edger from a neighbor.
It’s not a hard chore but when you have a large corner lot with sidewalks, that’s a lot of edging. It doesn’t seem like it should make that much of a difference but trimming up those blades of grass that had been creeping over the edges of the sidewalks and curbs suddenly makes your sidewalks feel so much bigger.
It’s sort of like cleaning up your database. It’s not difficult, it just takes so much time. But man, once it’s done, you feel so much better about having done it.
Looking for an Edge?
So what’s on your “to do list” that’s been sitting there a while? What’s that “little thing” that, when completed, might make things seem a little more open, clean, or useable? Do you need to borrow a tool from a neighbor or peer to get started on that thing you’ve been putting off? Can you build a new relationship, solve a lingering problem, or find a way to have a little more fun this week?
Sometimes when you get those “little things” out of your way, you find there are some bigger things right around the corner. Focus on activity, not results…and you’re that much closer to the success you’ve been looking for.
As for me, there’s not a whole lot of time left in the year. The next time I’ll need to edge my yard is next Spring. Sadly, it doesn’t mean my “to do list” is empty, it just means something else will rise to priority next week. The good news is, as I move to whatever is next, I have a little extra room on the sidewalks.
