The local forecast is calling for snow this week so it was perfect timing that Sunday was the last day of golf on the Ohio State Scarlet course.
There are two courses at The Ohio State University Golf Club; the championship Scarlet course and the easier Gray course. The Gray course will remain open for play during the winter (weather permitting) but the Scarlet course closed down until next Spring.
The “Golf Gods” and Mother Nature must have known it was the final day so, after a 90-minute frost delay, we enjoyed a sun-splashed afternoon in Central Ohio taking one last walk around the course before storing our clubs away in the corner of the garage or down in the basement. Who knows? Maybe we’ll get lucky with a few days where the temperatures are north of freezing and we’ll get to knock it around on the Gray course but those rounds will be muddy, cold, and few and far between.
For now, we’ll just sit back and think about how we can become better. We will contemplate new equipment to research and test over the winter, visit websites and watch YouTube videos of golf destinations we might want to visit in 2021, and reread old issues of Golf Digest and Ben Hogan’s Five Lessons. I’m sure I’m not the only one with some sort of putting contraption set up in my basement or home office.
In other words, we’ll start getting ready for the new year.
It won’t be long until we’ll watch the PGA Tour kick off 2021 at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii and then, before you know it, ESPN and CBS will start teasing us with Masters commercials. Ah, yes. Those commercials are, for me, the official sign of Spring.
For now we just sit back and envision what next year will bring.
Have You Started Looking Ahead?
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want anyone out there to phone it in for December. There are still plenty of opportunities to build relationships, solve problems, and have fun. Even though transactions written in the next few weeks might not close until the new year, it would still be good to get a few more clients that much closer to a closing. Today’s seeds will bring tomorrow’s harvest, right?
Look ahead to the new year knowing that much of your dreams and visions will start creating the activity you need to put yourself in position to play when the calendar changes.
There’s Always the Next Round
I didn’t play that great yesterday but I hit enough good shots to leave a little hunger in my belly for another round. When I got home, I cleaned my clubs and will maybe get some opportunities to hack it around on the Gray course before Christmas comes and the calendars change to 2021.
Until then, I’ll be looking forward to that first Spring morning when I can tee it up on the ol’ Scarlet course.
