Monday Morning Match is a simple post – maybe a quote, inspirational story or idea – intended to spark some motivation inside each of you so your week gets off to a fantastic start on Monday morning.
I had a dentist appointment last week. As soon as I stood up from the chair after my cleaning I felt a little dizzy, but really didn’t think anything of it. I went on with the rest of my day getting ready for a Carp’s Corner Conversation on Facebook LIVE, prepping for two presentations, and finalizing all details for closing later in the week. It was just another Tuesday…until it was Wednesday.
I woke up and just didn’t feel right. Could it be a hangover when I hadn’t done anything crazy the night before? Was I coming down with something? Nope. No fever or any other symptoms other than just feeling “off.”
I kept pausing to clear my head and tried to stick to my typical morning routine. As I readied to head to the office to deliver the first of two virtual presentations for the Florida Realtors Conference, I took a big drink of water and told myself, “Shake it off, Carp. You got this!”
As I finished my session for over 350 Realtors from across the state of Florida, I was wiped out. I packed up my stuff and stood up to leave and I almost fell over. I knew it. I’m no real-life Web MD but I knew I had vertigo. I’ve had it twice before and other than shingles (which had about 15 years ago) there is not a more uncomfortable malady one could develop – if there is, I’m glad I’ve never had it. I immediately went home and napped for 4 hours, hoping to wake up and not be spinning, seeing double, and feeling like I was going to fall off the floor.
Long story short, I wasn’t magically cured. It was uncomfortable to shower, it was uneasy brushing my teeth. I walked down the stairs like a toddler, one step and a time, gripping the banister tightly and hoping I wouldn’t fall over. If you’ve ever had a bout of vertigo, you know I’m not embellishing. It is a miserable affliction.
Don’t Lose Your Focus
We’ve all had obstacles that get it our way without warning. Heck, we’ve all been dealing with the constantly changing dynamics of the COVID-19 pandemic but we all still have things on our plate. We have clients to represent and service, we have family obligations to attend to, we have bills that need to be paid, and we have to maintain our physical and mental health as well.
Whether your head is spinning or your business is a whirlwind of activity, it’s critical to stay focused on the tasks and activities on your daily and weekly to-do list while also keeping your eyes on some of the longer-term goals you are striving to accomplish.
What if you made the commitment to wake up 15 minutes earlier each day this week? How would you use that extra 75 minutes? Maybe start your day with meditation or exercise? An extra phone call each day? Some quality time with a loved one?
Make sure you have your schedule planned…in writing, so you can check it at the start of your day and update it when you head home at the end of the day. This will help you figure out what needs to go on the next day’s list.
Remember what you need to do every day in order to achieve your goals. The more laser-focused you are on building relationships, solving problems, and having fun, the better chances you have of staying steady when everything else might seem to be a bit fuzzy.

Yes great way to put it. Although I’ve never had vertigo I can relate in a sense of my business. Everything spinning and not able to get a foothold. Thanks for the article as it reminds myself to do a triage and get focused.
