Monday Morning Match is a simple post – maybe a quote, inspirational story or idea – intended to spark some motivation inside each of you so your week gets off to a fantastic start on Monday morning.
The More Things Change…
One of the great things about a career in real estate is it’s different every day but one of the worst parts about real estate is it’s different every day. Add the current CoronaVirus pandemic to the uncertainty of a “typical day” and it really starts getting to be a challenge.
Did you see this humorous meme that came out very early in the “Shelter in Place” phase?
For many who thrive in a people-centric environment, suddenly working from home was part exciting and part challenging. Many states, regions, and local municipalities shut down or limited activity that could be done in public except for certain industries like medical, grocery stores, and other fields that were deemed “essential.” Sports shut down and did entertainment and travel was drastically reduced. All major sports leagues suspended their seasons and golf, tennis, soccer, and horse-racing to name a few, completely rearranged their seasons.
Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?
In the early 70’s the band Chicago had a hit song asking that exact question. It seems that now, more than ever, we are all a little bit “off” our games, desperately seeking to find some semblance of normalcy in our routines. As soon as we think we might be getting back to a system, something throws us off. The third leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown – The Belmont Stakes – was run this past weekend in New York. The first leg (which will now be the final race), The Kentucky Derby will now be held in early September. Yesterday was Father’s Day so instead of watching the US Open crown a winner as the steaks are coming off the grill, golf fans watched Webb Simpson win the RBC Classic at Harbour Town, a tournament that would have normally been held in early April the week after The Masters…except now the Masters will be held in November and that US Open? It’ll be held in the middle of September. Got it?
Keeping It In Control
With the expected ebbs and flows of a career in real estate, many of the most successful agents, team leaders, managers, and brokers do everything they can to control their day. It’s often said, “either you control your schedule or someone else does.”
What’s on your daily “to do list”?
Do you have a standard morning routine or do you get up whenever you feel like it?
Do you front-load your day with business development activities so you can make sure the important activities are done before you start tackling the business support activities?
Whether you’re working from home or are still getting in the office (or an ever-changing hybrid of the two), are you making “building relationships, solving problems, and having fun” a priority?
If we can keep doing the things we need to do each day to help turn customers into clients, guide our clients through the process into a contract, and then help navigate to a successful closing, we won’t have to wait to return to “normal” because we will be doing “normal” every single day.
So…what’s on your schedule this week? Are you going to sit back and wait for something to happen or would you rather get out there and make something happen?
Go on. Take control.
