Monday Morning Match is a simple post – maybe a quote, inspirational story or idea – intended to spark some motivation inside each of you so your week gets off to a fantastic start on Monday morning.
“We Should Get Together Sometime Soon”
We’ve all heard that before, haven’t we? It’s that statement people make with good intentions but rarely ever follow through on the “get together” part. Sadly, it’s a statement used all too often at “life events” like weddings and funerals.
Isn’t it sad to realize that oftentimes we only get together with some of the people that should be the closest relationships we have in our lives when people get married or buried?
It’s happened to me and it’s probably happened to you. For everyone who’s in a relationship business like we are, it should be something we aim to avoid.
I try to connect with friends or family anytime I travel someplace close to where they are. It might be a quick breakfast or a cup of coffee, or it could be meeting up for a happy hour, a home visit, or some other event. This past week I was able to connect with a buddy from college for dinner and craft beers and enjoyed two other meals with industry connections while traveling through Michigan. Next month I’ll meet up with some friends from my college fraternity days at a Florida football game.
At the same time, I ran into some good co-workers last week that I haven’t seen in a while and we made that promise to “get together, sometime soon.” I think I’ll send them a note now to see when we can make that happen in the next week or two.
Who do you need to reach out to this week? What’s on your agenda this week or next that would be the ideal situation to make a long-overdue connection? Where is that local spot or establishment that would be perfect to “catch up” with someone from your family or circle of friends?
Stop waiting for a random connection at a wedding chapel or a funeral parlor. Get busy building relationships, solving problems and having fun with someone whom you’ve been meaning to get together sometime soon.
