Monday Morning Match is a simple post – maybe a quote, inspirational story or idea – intended to spark some motivation inside each of you so your week gets off to a fantastic start on Monday morning.

As I sit down to write each week’s post, I try to come up with something original. In my over 900 posts over the years, I have never had a guest writer or simply dropped in a meme, photo, or video as the post itself. I’ve always tried to add my own little insight, idea, or inspiration for you, my reader.

I often will read it later and think to myself, “Hmmm, haven’t I already written that post before?” I’d hate to simply be repeating myself over and over again, but I know my readers aren’t always the same week in and week out so sometimes it’s okay if a topic or concept is repeated using different words. Sure, my topics are usually focused on some aspect of real estate, sales, or client services but even when they aren’t specifically about the industry, the central theme revolves around my philosophy of “building relationships, solving problems and having fun.” It makes sense because that’s the way I live my life. Those three things have become part of who I am.

I know that I’ve talked about For Sale By Owners, Open Houses, and the importance of following up with clients. I could release a short book of posts that simply start with “What Realtors Can Learn from…” like this one, or this one, or this one.

I have written plenty of posts about harnessing social media to grow your business, the importance of delivering memorable experiences and how being an active, engaged member of your company, industry, or community can make you better. I’ve used many of my personal experiences, travels, and family life as the main topics of posts throughout the years. So I sometimes second guess myself and want to say “forgive me if I’ve said this before.”

Back to the Basics

“It’s time to get back to the basics.” It’s a saying you hear all the time. It’s pulled out every time a new season or year begins. Whenever people get to “reset” something in their careers or lives, this mantra is a common phrase you’ll hear around the office, gym, or playing field. Here’s my question I always ask people who declare their intent to return to the ABC’s of their craft…

If the basics work so well, why do we need to get back to them? why don’t we just do them all the time?

Think about it – Every spring the best baseball players in the world will arrive in Arizona and Florida for “Spring Training” where they will practice skills like throwing, hitting, and catching a baseball. Something they have done for almost their entire lives. The best golfers in the world will literally practice their golf swing before every round they play in…and many times will go back to practice more after they are done playing. John Miller, author of QBQ! (one of my favorite books) says, “Repetition is the motor of learning.” Every Christmas Mass, people attending church services will probably hear the story of Baby Jesus being born in a manger in Jerusalem. It’s a story we have all heard before but hearing it again helps remind us of what we need to be doing, thinking, and believing.

What will you do this week that you have heard before but you know you should remind yourself of anyway? Will you follow up with a past client and invite them to join you for coffee or happy hour? Will you write a hand-written note? Have you scheduled an Open House for next weekend? What’s your go-to “script” when someone asks, “How’s the market?

What’s on your schedule today that is a business development activity that could lead to a new Buyer or Seller hiring you in the next 30 days? What tech or social media tools do you need to practice to make them a more powerful part of your business? Where in your local community can you show up and find that next opportunity?

What are you doing this week to build relationships, solve problems and have fun?

Sorry if you’ve heard these questions before. I’m convinced that sometimes we just cannot hear them enough.
