Monday Morning Match is a simple post – maybe a quote, inspirational story or idea – intended to spark some motivation inside each of you so your week gets off to a fantastic start on Monday morning.

Imagine this…

You wake up tomorrow morning with a severe toothache, who would you call? Your dentist, right? What about if your child wasn’t feeling well and you were afraid they might have come down with the sickness du jour, who are you going to call? Your pediatrician, right? What if you found out those six random numbers on your lottery ticket matched the ping pong balls that determined the next Power Ball winner, your first call is probably going to be to your attorney or financial advisor, right?

The neat thing for most of you reading this is you know exactly who you would call. No, not the profession…the actual person. You’d call Dr. Mitchell, or Dr. Batterson, or Jim, or Mr. Reinke. You have people in each of those positions that have earned that immediate name recognition and recall. When someone mentions a pediatrician, you immediately think of (insert your pediatrician’s name here). When you see a TV commercial or hear a radio jingle for the same financial brokerage where (insert your financial adviser’s name here) works, you think of her.

You don’t have to look in your phone or dig through your purse or wallet to find their business card. You don’t simply say, “Siri, who is my attorney?” These professionals have earned a place in that prestigious real estate of your brain that is known as “top of mind awareness.”

Now here’s a question for you; If we were to ask 100 random people in your town who their doctor was, how many do you think would know the answer? 90? 95? How about their dentist? 90? 95? Pediatrician? Again, probably 90-95…maybe even higher because our children’s health is so important. But what if we asked them “Who is your Realtor?”

Think about that. How many people out of 100 in your town do you feel have “a Realtor” the same way they have a doctor, dentist, attorney, or financial adviser? How many people do you think, when asked about real estate, immediately think of a specific Realtor? How many of them think about you? When someone asks for a referral or recommendation for real estate advice or help, will that person have your name echoing in the top of their mind?

What can you do this week to start earning “top of mind awareness” from your clients, friends and family, and others in your local community? Will you establish yourself as the “local expert” through your marketing efforts? Where will people see or hear your name? Are you leveraging direct mail, social media, video, yard signs, face-to-face opportunities, internet marketing campaigns and other strategies in and around your town? Can you earn people’s trust through your competence, confidence, and consistency?

Top of mind awareness isn’t something that just happens overnight. It’s earned by…you guessed it; Building relationships, solving problems and having fun.

Ah yes, I remember it well.
