Monday Morning Match is a quick post – maybe a quote, inspirational story or idea – intended to spark some motivation inside each of you so your week gets off to a fantastic start on Monday morning.

23 times, Michael Phelps has jumped in the pool at the Olympic games and earned a Gold Medal. 23 times he has emerged in a race against the best swimmers in the world as the fastest in the pool. And while he clearly won the final races on those days, it was probably all the actions he took before the actual final races that helped him get to the top medal stand a record 23 times.

Be honest? Do you think what you’ll do this week will make a difference?

Really? Will the actions you take in the next seven days do anything to “fill your funnel”, “pack your pipeline,” or put any money in on the revenue side of your business ledger? Does what you do today really matter in the big scheme of things?

If your answer is “no,” stop reading this post immediately. Do not pass Go. Proceed immediately to your manager or brokers office and submit your resignation. Stop going through the motions and start looking for a career where you can believe in what you’re doing. Find something that will allow you to make a better income, have a better lifestyle or impact the world in a way that makes you and the people around you better.

On the other hand, if the answer is “yes,” then stay focused. Keep doing what you do each day. I know it might not seem like every day is getting you closer to success but it is. I used to tell new agents that it doesn’t matter how fast you get your first closing, what matters is what happens after that first closing.

“Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out”

– Robert Collier

Imagine a young Michael Phelps swimming laps in the pool each morning. An awkward, lanky kid churning his over-sized arms and legs up and down the length of the swimming pool day in and day out would eventually become one of the greatest Olympians to ever compete in the Games. Before the ancient Pyramids of Giza or Great Wall of China were built, there was just a pile of stones waiting to be placed in a certain position. Those structures were completed one block at a time. The only way to complete a marathon is by putting one foot in front of the other until you’ve crossed 26.2 miles. In other words, completing the distance one step at a time.

The same goes for success in a business like real estate. It happens one step at a time. Or is that one relationship at a time?

Focus on activity, not results.

One more phone call this week? One more email? One more Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter post, comment, or DM? One more guest at an Open House? One more Zillow lead follow up? One more client pop by? One more handwritten note? One more door knocked on? One more FSBO called?

Just think of how many times Michael Phelps didn’t want to swim one more lap. 23 gold medals later and he’s probably pretty happy he kept swimming just one more lap.
