Monday Morning Match is a quick post – maybe a quote, inspirational story or idea – intended to spark some motivation inside each of you so your week gets off to a fantastic start on Monday morning.
I’m no speed demon but you won’t catch me holding up traffic in the fast lane either. When I travel, I am aware of the speed limit and stay very focused on the road and my fellow travelers. I enjoy using the Cruise Control feature in my car and usually set it about five or six miles per hour above the speed limit. Sometimes I pass some cars and other times, some cars pass me.
Yesterday I drove a little more than 400 miles from Columbus to Fort Mill, South Carolina and today I’ll drive the last 85 miles into Columbia to help my daughter Riley move into her sorority house where she will live during her sophomore year at The University of South Carolina. For a majority of the trip these last two days, I have hovered much closer to the speed limit than usual as Riley was following behind me in her car. It was her first long-distance drive in her new car that she got this summer so she was a bit nervous on the interstates, especially on the mountainous sections along the West Virginia Turnpike and on the long descent out of Virginia into North Carolina. We stopped multiple times for fuel, snacks, bathroom breaks and lunch.
I never felt like we were going too slow. I never felt like I needed to rush. As we arrived at our hotel in Fort Mill, I didn’t wish I had been there an hour earlier. We had no need to get there any earlier than we did. And you know what? I also wasn’t anxious or feel like my nerves were on “high alert” like you can sometimes feel after a long day of driving.
What the Speed Limit This Week?
How’s your “To Do List” look this week? Do you have lots of tasks that you need to get done? Is there anything to gain by checking all those things off the list early?
Map out your week now, before you even start on anything. How can you arrive at the end of your week and get all the items completed while feeling energized and inspired?
Don’t rush, be safe, and enjoy the ride. See how you feel when you get where you’re going. I can assure you, you’ll still have plenty of time to build relationships, solve problems, and have fun.
