Monday Morning Match is a quick post – maybe a quote, inspirational story or idea – intended to spark some motivation inside each of you so your week gets off to a fantastic start on Monday morning.
Bear Sighting
It’s been a long time coming, but it finally happened yesterday.
After getting up early and leaving Kalispell at 6 am, we set off towards the east and headed into the smoky air that has been a by-product of the numerous forest fires affecting many parts of the Northwestern United States.
We had just passed the Border Inspection checkpoint traveling from Montana, USA into Alberta, Canada. I pulled over to snap a photo of the welcome sign and buckled back into the rental car. Anyone who has ever traveled north of Glacier National Park in Northwest Montana into Alberta to visit the sister park – Waterton Park will tell you there is a good chance you’ll see a bear. Having never seen one in the 30+ years I’ve been visiting the state where I was born, it’s always been one of those “bucket list” things I’ve been waiting to cross off.
As I was putting my Passport back into my pocket and accelerating down the straightaway, I thought I saw something run across the road. I told my co-pilot (my Mom) that I saw something run across the street and it looked like a little bear. After slowing down to see if we could still see anything moving in the high grass off the road on the passenger side of the car, another playful bear cub came bounding out of the tall grass on the left and crossed in front of us. Following the last bear with our eyes, we caught a glimpse of the mother bear and the first cub waiting for the last cub and they quickly dashed up the foothill into the trees.
I was to slow to grab a photo but trust me, I saw my bear. Actually, I saw three bears. Check! Check! Check!
What Are the Bears of Your Business?
Is there anything on your “must accomplish” list in your business? Maybe you’d like a seven-figure price point on a listing or sale? How about securing a minimum of one listing and one sale every month of a calendar year? 52 transactions in a year? 100 transactions? A successful land or commercial transaction?
I’m sure some of these might seem easy to some of you while others can maybe only imagine these. Heck, before yesterday, there were people who had seen bears in the wild but after each visit to Big Sky Country without seeing a bear, it was still a question of whether or not I would ever see one.
Will you hire a team member, close three or more transactions in one day, earn your first 5-star review on Zillow or secure a new client from one of your prospecting efforts that so far hasn’t proven viable like Open Houses or door knocking? What about getting that first repeat client or referral from a client? Have you ever sold a second-generation client? How about a third or fourth generation client?
Whatever might be on your “it’ll happen someday” list, keep looking for it. Sometimes it’ll be standing right there waiting for you to see it but most of the time, you better be ready for it because it could just run right out in front of you.
I’ll continue building relationships, solving problems, and having fun while I add two new boxes to my “bucket list”; Mountain Lion and Gray Wolf.
