Monday Morning Match is a quick post – maybe a quote, inspirational story or idea – intended to spark some motivation inside each of you so your week gets off to a fantastic start on Monday morning.
I drove down to Columbia, South Carolina to help move my daughter Riley back home after her freshman year of college. We had a successful time packing the car and fitting everything from McClintock Hall, Room 312 into the family car. At one point, it didn’t look like it was all going to fit but with some strategic packing and patience, we made it work.
As we said goodbye to Riley’s roommates and sorority sisters and pulled away from the campus for the 8+ hour ride back to Columbus, Riley sighed and said, “Wow, that went by quickly.”
It was just 10 short months ago that we were doing just the opposite – unloading a full car and young girl into her new “home” and leaving her to start the next chapter of her life. I remember thinking as we drove away back in August that it was going to be a long four years until we would be watching her walk across a stage in her cap and gown and graduate. Well, one year down and now only three to go. Now it’s my turn to sigh and say, “Wow, that went by quickly.”
That “thing” you’ve been meaning to get done? It isn’t just going magically happen without you taking action. What are you waiting for?
The personal follow-up and efforts to keep in touch with customers, clients, and family members should be done daily because each day you miss just adds more contacts to be made. If the list gets too long, it can become overwhelming and the likelihood of keeping up-to-date decreases. Make the call, write the letter, send the email.
Sure, you might have some business now. Maybe you’re busy with several buyers who are close to writing offers or perhaps you just listed a few houses that should sell quickly, bringing you those welcomed commission checks. Just remember, each day you don’t focus on business development activities, it’ll take that much longer to secure new business after today’s business is closed.
Setting aside 20-30% of every paycheck doesn’t seem like it will make a difference, but every dollar you set aside adds up and helps come tax season or when that “rainy day fund” is needed.
When was the last time you got out and exercised? For many of us, if it doesn’t happen on a regular basis, our body reminds us that we aren’t getting younger. Those creaks and groans are your muscles, bones, and joints telling you that regular exercise and maintenance is the best policy to stay healthy.
Build relationships, solve problems, and have fun this week because before you know it, you’ll blink and it’ll be next week and you’ll think to yourself, “wow, that went by quickly.”
Now…excuse me while I go spend some time with my daughter. August will be here before I know it and it’ll be time to pack up the car and head South.
