Monday Morning Match is a quick post – maybe a quote, inspirational story or idea – intended to spark some motivation inside each of you so your week gets off to a fantastic start on Monday morning.

Just because you want something to happen doesn’t mean it will. You still have to prepare, execute, handle the pressure and close the deal.

Am I talking about securing that next listing, getting your current buyers in contract, creating a relationship with that Internet lead you got last week or connecting with that out of area Realtor to send a referral?  Or am I talking about Tiger Woods and all his fans*, yearning for the first comeback win in his Hall of Fame career since 2013?

We had a great time following Tiger Woods in Round 1 of the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando

Of course, I am talking about all of them. All of these things are wanted by someone, but a passionate feeling or desire alone won’t get it done. Just showing up isn’t good enough and thinking your past performance or reputation is going to scare today’s competition will not work.

Delivering a flawless presentation with a detailed market analysis doesn’t guarantee the Sellers won’t choose another agent who suggests a higher price or offers a lower commission. Who among us hasn’t had a buyer put forth a strong offer, only to be outbid by a stronger offer? Internet leads that never return your call? Admit it, sometimes it’s difficult to match a referral with the right agent hundreds or thousands of miles away when you don’t really “know” them or their service. And while Tiger is certainly close to regaining his spot among the best in the game of golf, until he can capture another tournament win, can he really claim to be “back”?

Oh sure, he might be “back” by our standards but someone with his desire to win every time he steps on the first tee of a tournament, nothing will be enough until he is holding a trophy on the 18th green at the end of an event.

Until further notice, all there is to do is keep practicing, keep learning and keep believing it will happen. You can’t get discouraged by the near-misses and close losses. Sometimes coming up just a little short will give you the focus and fuel needed to get over the hump and return to the winner’s circle. Just remember, you’ve been there before so you know you can get back again. If you have any doubts, simply look in your closet. You just might find a few green jackets in there.

Until then, keep building relationships, solving problems and having fun.

*It was exciting to be in Orlando for Spring Break last week and have the chance to bring my son Ryan to the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill Golf Club. It was his first chance to see the greatest golfer of his generation up close and in person. We got there before 7am and followed Tiger throughout his first round. It was a thrill to watch Tiger up close but even cooler to watch my son get to watch one or his golfing heroes. Woods finished in 4th place after making an epic charge in the final round, only to come up short.
