Monday Morning Match is a quick post – maybe a quote, inspirational story or idea – intended to spark some motivation inside each of you so your week gets off to a fantastic start on Monday morning.

Today marks the birthday of Levi Strauss, German-American businessman who founded the first company to manufacture blue jeans. Strauss was born in Buttenheim, Germany on February 26, 1929. Strauss can be credited with creating that piece of clothing that people become very attached to, often wearing jeans until they have holes in them. In fact, ripped jeans have become so popular, they are being sold that way – even though purists will never skip the time-tested tradition of wearing, washing and breaking in those jeans until they are just right.

While there are probably a few people who for some reason or another don’t wear blue jeans, most of us have those one or two favorite pair of blue jeans that we can turn to when we just want to feel comfortable. It might be on a rainy day when we are working around the house or it could be some days when we want to maintain a casual feel yet compliment our look with a dress shirt and sports coat.

The Blue Jean Effect?

What defines your “comfort zone”? What are the activities you do on a regular basis that happen with confidence, competence, and consistency? Where is that place where stuff “just gets done” in your business? Is it the office? A local coffee shop?  When are you focused? Early mornings? After lunch? Are you a night owl? Who are the people that encourage you to perform your best?

We all need to have that place, activity, time or people that simply allow us to relax and be at our best. As you slide on those comfortable blue jeans this week, think about where, what, when, and who allows you to build relationships, solve problems and have fun. Then purposefully find reasons to get in those spots. Just like your trusty jeans, you’ll just feel better once you do.
