Monday Morning Match is a quick post – maybe a quote, inspirational story or idea – intended to spark some motivation inside each of you so your week gets off to a fantastic start on Monday morning.
This past week I got to hang out with some All-Stars. The companies I work for held events for our agents and managers in Central Ohio and Greater Cincinnati that featured several successful agents from around the country and a featured guest from the National Association of Realtors and it provided a great amount of information, ideas and inspiration for all who attended…even the guests themselves.
I’ve hosted these events many times over the years in my role and it always ends up happening; the guests tell me they probably gained more from the event that they shared and would be returning to their own markets with a renewed boost of excitement and enthusiasm that will help them finish the year strong and leverage their new ideas into even more success in the new year.
Coldwell Banker agents Dondi Hopkins (Plantation, FL), Magan Drane (Baltimore, MD) and Dave Oswald (Minneapolis, MN) were our spotlight guests along with local stars Scott Oyler (Madeira, OH) and Andrew Guanciale (Newark, OH). We were also honored to have NAR’s Director of Digital Engagement, Nobu Hata, as our keynote speaker who shared insights and examples of what todays agents need to be doing to create and maintain a better digital strategy to create better opportunities to serve their communities in the future.
From the moment these guests arrived in town, they were sharing ideas, stories and techniques they have learned and leveraged in their business to earn the “top agent” moniker. Between our events in each city we shared meals, cocktails and side trips to visit Ohio Stadium and take in a Cincinnati Reds game so we had plenty of time to get to know each other “off the clock” as well, so we truly got to learn what makes them all such great agents and leaders. The easy to identify ingredient among them all? They are just damn good people.
The statement came up a few times that “if you are the smartest person in a room, you should find another room.” Real estate, much like life, is something that can never be mastered. We all can learn something new every day if we are listening to those people who are smarter, savvier, or more studied than we are.
The status quo is filled with people who are comfortable being just as close to the top as they are to the bottom. The more you hang around with the rock stars in this real estate business (or probably any other business), the more you realize they spend a ton of their time focused on one thing – becoming better…every day…in every way.
They spend their time using technology to compel people into the real world, harnessing video, building a name in their community, leveraging systems and team members, learning from family members who have been in the business longer than them, utilizing the tools and support of their office, company and brand, and blending a great work ethic with a positive attitude.
In other words, they spend time building relationships, solving problems and having fun.
