I am blessed to have the opportunity to coach my son Ryan’s baseball team. The UA Sharks are twelve boys who just finished the 5th grade and are on the verge of boys becoming men. It’s a subtle mixture of tears and testosterone.
The bad news is they are far from “professionals” when they step on the field.
The good news is…no one expects them to be.
Little Kids with Big League Aspirations
They are just 11-year-old boys playing a summer sport to see if it might be something they will pursue as they get older. Some of these boys will excel at soccer or basketball or football. Some might find out they are better at the “scholar” part of the term “scholar athlete” as they continue to develop and grow older and that is awesome too.
There are just three things I expect out of my boys when they take the field for practice or a game and winning or losing aren’t any of the three.
The 3 H’s
I tell the boys each night before we take the field for a game or any afternoon we are out there to practice that all I want from them is to show me the 3 H’s;
- Hustle
- Play Hard
- Have Fun
This short promotional video from the folks at Dick’s Sporting Goods kind of sums it up.
Are You Ready to Take the Field?
I’ve said it many times in this blog that you can’t hit home runs if you never swing the bat. Aren’t you ready to start swinging for the fences in your career and your life?
Isn’t it time that you get noticed for the awesome professional you are?
As a real estate agent, branch manager, company broker or owner or anyone looking to “become better” at life than you were yesterday, how are you looking for ways to hustle, play hard and have fun?
Grab a helmet and get ready.
You’re up next!

One of my favorite post by you. Short, simple, & effective. Thank you for the time & effort you put into your posts. This post allowed me to go back to my little league days!

David – Thanks for the comments. I love it when I can express my thoughts in fewer words too. Sometimes the shorter posts are harder but hopefully all of my readers can find something to pull from any post.
Thanks for your support and keep up the great work down in Alabama.

Sean, thanks for a great post. It appreciated your perspective that no one knows whether or not the big leagues lie ahead unless one begins swinging the bat—unless one opens himself/herself up to the possibility of striking out.

Jason – Thanks for stopping by and commenting. The business that we are in will show us much more failures than successes but just like Major League Baseball, that’s okay. Think about it – in the big leagues you just need to get a hit 3 out of 10 times and you’re a hall of fame candidate.
Imagine what we could accomplish if we weren’t afraid to fail every now and then?
Keep up the great efforts of helping people become better at what they do. See ya soon.
